    Atlanta, Ga. — Owen Mumford is giving the packaging for its Unifine Pentips and Unifine Pentips Plus product lines a refresh, the company announced Monday. The new cartons will begin shipping this month, with the expectation that they will be fully phased in by January 2017.

    BOSTON  — Health Dialog announced Wednesday that its 24/7 Nurse Line has received a two-year certification by the National Committee for Quality Assurance under the Health Information Products certification process for a Health Information Line.

  • FDA approves Acella’s generic Bromfed DM

    ATLANTA — Acella Pharmaceuticals announced Friday that it had recently secured approval for a sugar-free bioequivalent of Bromfed DM cough syrup (brompheniramine maleate, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, and dextromethorphan hydrobromide syrup, 2mg/30mg/10mg per 5mL). The drug is indicated to temporarily relieve cold, flu, allergy or other breathing illness symptoms. 
     
  • Study: CLIA waivers can empower pharmacists to fill PCP care gap

    FAIRFAX, Va. - Pharmacists and lab technicians are capable of absorbing the additional health management responsiblities currently being created by the reduction in primary care physicians, according to a new study published by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the physician shortage could reach as high as a shortage of 20,000 primary care physicians by 2020.

  • Kaléo’s Auvi-Q auto-injector to return to U.S. in 2017

    RICHMOND, Va.  — Kaléo announced Wednesday that it will be reintroducing its Auvi-Q (epinephrine injection) auto-injector in the United States during the first half of 2017. This would bring another option to the epinephrine auto-injector space at a time when access and affordability in the space have seen focus from patients and legislators. 
     
  • Fred’s offering flu vaccines as season kicks off

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Highlighting the more than 200,000 people hospitalized as a result of complications from the flu, Fred’s pharmacy announced Tuesday that it will be offering flu vaccines to help patients proactively protect against the flu. 
     
    Fred’s said that its pharmacists would work with patients to figure out which version of the flu vaccine is best for them. The company also noted that flu vaccines are free with most insurance plans, though copays may apply. 
     
  • Teva, IBM expand Watson Health Cloud collaboration

    LAS VEGAS — In a move aimed at addressing the two challenges of discovering new options for treatment and improving chronic disease management, Teva and IBM on Wednesday announced an expansion of their e-health alliance, with both projects running on the IBM Watson Health Cloud.
