  • Safeway to acquire Andronico's markets in California

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway and Andronico’s Community Markets have entered into an agreement for Safeway to purchase the five Andronico’s stores in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    According to a statement posted on the Andronico's website, Renovo Capital, which acquired Andronico’s out of bankruptcy in 2011, approached Safeway earlier this year about purchasing their stores in Berkeley, Los Altos, San Anselmo and San Francisco.

    In remarks Friday at the Net Impact Conference, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon outlined a "new roadmap" that will guide the company’s role in society on critical issues during the next several years, and pointed to a “new era of trust and transparency.”

    WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee on Friday announced the kick-off of its Hy-Vee Homefront initiative to honor veterans as Veterans Day approaches, which includes several efforts, including customer contributions, complimentary Veterans Day breakfasts at Hy-Vee stores, honor flights and employee recruitment for veterans and military members.

  • Fred’s sees 4.5% Q3 sales decline, suspends guidance for second-half of 2016

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred’s on Thursday released its sales results for the fiscal month of October, as well as its Q3 and year-to-date sales results for the period ended Oct. 29. The company has also made the decision to suspend its previously issued guidance for the second half of 2016 and announced the date it would be releasing November sales and third quarter financial.
