  • Canadian health and beauty retailer to open stores in U.S.

    A retailer that specializes in natural, plant-based wellness and beauty products is hoping to make a big splash in the United States.

    Saje Natural Wellness will open its first U.S. store at the end of November, in Malibu, California, with plans to open 25 additional locations in 2017. The company’s stores are designed to offer a sensorial and educational experience, allowing engagment with the products on display.

    The Vancouver-based retailer is also launching a new web site that will allow it to sell direct to U.S.-based customers.

  • Albertsons names new VP communications, public affairs

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons Co. has named a new VP communications and public affairs. The company on Wednesday named Christine Wilcox, who has been the company’s VP corporate communications, to the position, filling a vacancy left by the retirement of Brian Dowling. 
     
  • An expanding Weis Markets records Q3 revenue growth of 4.4%

    SUNBURY, Pa. - Weis Markets on Monday posted a third quarter sales increase of 4.4% to $743 million compared the same period in 2015. Comparable store sales for the 13-week period ended Sept. 24, 2016 increased 2.7%.

    In the third quarter, the company's net income declined 16.9% to $10.6 million compared to $12.8 million for the same period in 2015. The company's earnings per share totaled $0.40 compared to $0.48 per share for the same period in 2015.

  • Publix reports jump in comps, revenue, profit

    LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix on Tuesday reported a boost in same store sales and an increase in profit for the third quarter.

    Total sales for the third quarter of 2016 were $8 billion, a 2.4 percent increase from last year’s $7.8 billion. Same store sales for the third quarter of 2016 increased 0.9 percent.

    Effective Nov. 1, 2016, Publix’s stock price decreased from $41.90 per share to $40.15 per share. Publix stock is not publicly traded and is made available for sale only to current Publix associates and members of its board of directors.

  • Raley's Supermarkets to debut new format in Calif.

    SACRAMENTO -- Raley’s Supermarkets is building a new concept in along downtown Sacramento’s R Street arts corridor.

    According to the Sacramento Bee, the 11,000-square-foot market will be under the umbrella of the Raley’s brand, but will be operated independently, the company said.

    The new concept, dubbed Market 5-ONE-5, is being described as an indoor farmers market and was the brainchild of Raley’s president and CEO Michael Teel. The new store would be much smaller than full-service grocery stores. 

  • Cardinal Health realizes revenue gains but earnings decline behind pricing headwinds

    DUBLIN, Ohio - Cardinal Health on Monday reported first-quarter fiscal year 2017 revenue of $32 billion, an increase of 14% from the comparable quarter last year.

    The company also reported a decline in GAAP operating earnings of 14% to $535 million. GAAP diluted earnings per share decreased 17% to $0.96.
