  • Supervalu to sell Save-A-Lot for $1.36 billion

    MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Monday announced that it would be selling its Save-A-Lot business to an affiliate of Toronto-based private equity firm Onex Corp. for $1.365 billion in cash. Supervalu and Save-A-Lot will enter into a five-year professional services agreement to go along with the sale, which is expected to be completed by Jan. 31, 2017. 
     
  • Checkout 51 launches first U.S. Spanish coupon app

    NEW YORK -- Fast-growing couponing app Checkout 51 is now the first major grocery savings app in the United States to be available in Spanish.

    The Spanish version of the free mobile app provides offers available in the English version of Checkout 51, including savings on diapers, milk, eggs, alcohol and more.

  • Kmart parent company names new finance head

    Sears Holdings announced that Jason Hollar has been promoted to CFO, effective immediately. 
      
    Hollar succeeds Robert A. Schriesheim, who the chain previously announced would be departing to focus on his other business interests and pursue other career opportunities. 
  • Giant/Martin’s customers donate more than $588K through ‘Bag Hunger’ effort

    CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets announced Friday that during its annual Bag Hunger campaign, their customers donated $588,075 to local and regional food banks in four states. The campaign lasted throughout the month September. 
     
  • Report: New Tribeca Target a hit with city dwellers

    A new flexible-format Target store in the Tribeca area of Manhattan is now open, and so far it's been a hit with shoppers.

    According to the New York Daily News, the exterior of the store doesn't say Target — only its logo can be seen, the big red bullseye signals what it is. Inside, the first floor feels more like a local trendy shop than a Target. 

  • CVS Health's SilverScript Insurance offers two $0-deductible Part D plans

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. - SilverScript Insurance Company, a CVS Health company, on Wednesday announced its new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan options for 2017. Medicare beneficiaries in the continental U.S. can choose from two SilverScript plans that offer a $0-deductible on formulary drugs in all five tiers, affordable copays and competitive premiums. In addition, SilverScript beneficiaries have access to a broad pharmacy network, with more than 66,000 participating pharmacies across the country, including national and regional chains and independently-owned, community-based pharmacies.
