    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - According to new research released Tuesday by the Global Market Development Center, self care is being fueled by a number of factors, including a shortage of primary care physicians and increasing costs throughout the entire value stream of today's health care system. Already, eight in 10 consumers prefer using OTC self-treatments before visiting a health care professional in an effort to reduce personal expense and frequent clinics and physician's offices less often.

  • Weis Markets announces plans to rebrand 38 Food Lion locations

    SUNBURY, Pa.  - Weis Markets on Tuesday announced plans to convert 38 Food Lion supermarket locations to Weis Markets stores. The company has completed the purchase of these locations operating in the states of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware, and plans to complete the conversion process by the end of October.

  • Survey: Retail sites pick up steam among consumer searches

    Search engines are getting knocked down a peg when it comes to where consumers begin their online research.
     
    More than two-thirds (67%) of shoppers now begin their online searches on a retail site, not a search engine, according to “Browsing & Buying Behavior by Category: 2016,” a report from HookLogic. 
  • Oldest son of H-E-B founder dies at 89

     SAN ANTONIO ‑ Howard Butt Jr., one-time president of the H.E. Butt Foundation and vice chairman of the H-E-B board, passed away Sunday evening at the age of 89.

    H‑E‑B is the largest family‑owned company in Texas, led by family members who include Butt’s brother, chairman and CEO Charles Butt, Howard Butt III and Stephen Butt.

  • Kmart survey reveals shopper insights regarding flu shots

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- In an effort to encourage vaccinations, Kmart has unveiled data from a new survey showing that one in four Americans believe getting the flu vaccine early is the best way to avoid getting sick.

    A new online survey of Kmart shoppers, conducted on behalf of Kmart Pharmacy by the company's Member Feedback and Insights team, found that more than a third of shoppers choose not to get a flu shot, and almost a quarter said that price plays a significant role when deciding if they should get vaccinated.
