  • Sephora redefines beauty retail in Toronto

    TORONTO -- Sephora is opening its first Beauty TIP Workshop concept store in Canada.

    The new Sephora Yorkdale is one of four stores in North America to feature the 'Teach, Inspire, Play' concept, where digital technology and services fuse.

    The retailer says it plans to conduct a year-long market intensification in the greater Toronto area, the newly renovated 9,146 square foot expansion of the Yorkdale store has been reimagined as a next-generation environment that is rooted in discovery and innovation.

  • NACDS and Massachusetts Convention Center Authority donate TSE goods to local community

    BOSTON – Exhibitors at the 2016 National Association of Chain Drug Stores Total Store Expo on Thursday donated several thousand consumer goods to be dispersed to various charitable organizations throughout the Greater Boston community. The NACDS Total Store Expo was held August 6-9 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

  • Target, other retailers answer Louisiana’s call for help after ‘Great Flood of 2016’

    As the national media continues to largely ignore Louisiana’s cries for help after 6.9 trillion gallons of rain pummeled the southern part of the state between Aug. 8 and Aug. 14, retailers such as Target Corp. have answered the call.

    Target said Friday it will donate $400,000 to assist Baton Rouge and the surrounding communities affected. The donation includes $100,000 to both the Salvation Army and American Red Cross to aid shelter and relief efforts. Additionally, the retailer will donate $30,000 to aid recovery efforts for impacted local schools.

  • Survey: Hispanics rely on phones to make back-to-school choices

    Three-quarters of Hispanic shoppers in the U.S. will make back-to-school purchase in stores, but which ones will be strongly influenced by their mobile marketing offers.

    A survey of 500 Hispanic consumers conducted by mobile ad platform Retale found nine out of 10 saying they’d be using their smartphones to shop and that their dollars would be put toward the best deals.

  • Fred’s promotes Liebmann to new COO pharmacy position

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred’s on Friday announced that it had promoted its VP pharmacy services, Timothy Liebmann, to the newly created position of COO pharmacy, effective immediately. Liebmann will be succeeding the company’s retiring EVP pharmacy operations, Rick Chambers.
     
  • Dollar General expands into North Dakota

    Dollar General is moving into North Dakota, announcing that it has begun construction on five new stores in the state. This gives the discount retailer a footprint in 44 states after having established operations in Maine, Oregon, and Rhode Island in 2015.

    The initial North Dakota locations will be in Ellendale, Gwinner, Hankinson, Hillsboro, and Oakes. They’re being built in the chain’s standard 9,100-sq.-ft. format.
