    ATLANTA - The American Cancer Society and CVS Health on Wednesday announced a three-year, $3.6 million initiative to provide grants to 125 institutions of higher learning to help accelerate and expand the number of 100% smoke- and tobacco-free college and university campuses throughout the United States.

  • Walgreens, APhA partner on substance abuse education program

    WASHINGTON - Walgreens and the American Pharmacists Association on Tuesday announced a collaboration that expands Walgreens efforts to fight prescription drug abuse. Through this collaboration, the APhA Institute on Alcoholism and Drug Dependencies will continue to offer a substance abuse education program for pharmacists and student pharmacists.
     
  • Walgreens adds New Jersey to list of states where naloxone is available without Rx

    DEERFIELD, Ill. - New Jersey is the latest state where Walgreens is making naloxone, an opioid antidote, available without a prescription in accordance with state pharmacy regulations.
     
    Naloxone is now more accessible and easier to obtain in more than 190 Walgreens pharmacies throughout New Jersey.
     
  • MinuteClinic opens seven locations in Northern Virginia

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. - MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic of CVS Health, has opened new locations inside Target stores in Northern Virginia. The clinics – located in seven stores in Chantilly, Fairfax, Falls Church, Gainesville, Leesburg, Manassas and Sterling – have been rebranded and converted to MinuteClinic. 
     
    There are now 31 MinuteClinic locations in Northern Virginia and 52 in the DC Metro area, including clinics in CVS Pharmacy stores. 
     
  • Same-stores Q1 sales up 6.3% across Shoppers Drug Mart

    BRAMPTON, Ontario - Loblaw Companies on Wednesday posted $8.1 billion, an increase of 3.3%, for its first quarter ended March 26, 2016. Retail segment sales were $7.9 billion. 
     
    Drug retail (Shoppers Drug Mart) same-store sales growth was 6.3%, with same-store pharmacy sales increasing by 4.2% and same-store front store sales increasing by 8.2%. The timing of Easter had a positive impact on front store same-store sales of approximately 1.9%.
     
  • Q1 comp sales up 3.3% across Publix

    LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix’s sales for the first quarter of 2016 totaled $8.7 billion, the grocer reported Monday, a 4.5% increase from the same period last year. Comparable-store sales for the first quarter of 2016 increased 3.3%. The company estimates sales increased 1.2% due to the effect of the Easter holiday being in the first quarter of 2016.
