Wahl rolled out a new AI-powered virtual try-on experience that allows users to test out different hairstyles and facial styles on an avatar version of themselves.

The Style Selector features ‘Try Before You Trim’ technology to help men see what styles suit them best and save looks, as well as access tools and guidance to create the styles at home, the brand shared.

“We’re excited to continue expanding new, innovative ways to enhance the consumer experience and instill the confidence to try a new look,” said Steven Yde, vice president of North America consumer at Wahl. “The Style Selector offers men the opportunity to find a new hair or facial hairstyle that best suits them in a realistic, fun way and be able to implement it at-home.”

Utilizing machine learning from AvatarSDK, which helps ingest data for such things as face shape, the tool begins with a blank slate avatar that has all hair and facial hairstyles removed before exploring the options, the company said.

Currently offering 12 options for both hairstyles and facial hair and beard styles, the Style Selector gives users the option to save their favorite looks and provides step-by-step instructions on how to achieve each style, as well as what products to use.

The tool is accessible online via Wahl’s website.
