  • WBA's Ornella Barra receives Guido Carli award

    DEERFIELD, Ill. - The Associazione Guido e Maria Carli, an Italian association founded in 2010 to honor distinguished personalities from the world of economics, high finance, culture and social commitment, last month honored Ornella Barra, EVP Walgreens Boots Alliance and president and chief executive of global wholesale and international retail, with its coveted Guido Carli award among 12 of her compatriots.

  • Walgreens celebrates Red Nose Day by ringing Nasdaq Opening Bell

    NEW YORK — Walgreens VP corporate operations Skip Bourdo, alongside Comic Relief trustee Christy Gibb, literally rang in Red Nose Day 2016 — the charity’s annual fundraising campaign  to help children in the poorest areas of the U.S. and the world — by ringing the Opening  Bell at the Nasdaq Stock Market’s Times Square headquarters. Representatives from NBCUniversal and Mars Chocolate North America were also in attendance.
     
  • IM Healthscience’s FDgard hits stores nationwide

     
    SAN DIEGO — IM HealthScience announced Monday that its treatment for functional dyspepsia (FD, characterized by persistent or recurring indigestion), FDGard is now nationally available in the digestive aisle at most Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy stores. 
     
    FDGard uses caraway and peppermint oils to manage FD among the one-in-six adults estimated to suffer from the condition.

  • Walgreens Boots Alliance thanks outgoing board director Rosenstein

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens Boots Alliance thanked Barry Rosenstein, managing partner of JANA Partners and outgoing board director, for his service since September 2016. Rosenstein’s board service was set to end once JANA reduced its investment in Walgreens below a certain threshold, which happened this week, though it still holds a significant stake in Walgreens. 
     
  • Report: Walgreens can now dispense naloxone without prescription in Lone Star State

    Texas is the latest state in which Walgreens can dispense naloxone without a prescription, according to a KUT.org published Thursday. Last year, advocates and public health experts convinced state lawmakers to pass Senate Bill 1462 in an effort to address the ongoing opioid epidemic. The bill was supposed to expand the availability of naloxone in Texas when it went into effect in September, but things have moved slowly, the news organization reported. On Wednesday, Alicia Kowalchuk with Baylor Medicine in Houston wrote a standing order for the medication for every Walgreens in the state.
