    While everyone is focusing on pure play online giant Amazon, what they are likely missing is how brick and mortar retailers are driving ecommerce sales growth, noted TABS Analytics last week in a blog. "The TABS Analytics 10th Vitamin and Minerals Study revealed that online sales by traditional brick and mortar retailers propelled the market to an all-time high, growing an estimated 6% in the last year to reach $13.5 billion in annual sales," the company reported.     Online subscription beauty retailer Birchbox may be looking to sell itself.
     
    The company has been discussing a potential sale with several retailers, including Walmart, reported Recode. If the discounter were to acquire Birchbox, it would be the chain's fifth e-commerce acquisition since last August.

  • Walmart brings Scan and Go offering to more locations

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart is helping more shoppers skip the checkout line. 
     
    The company is expanding the deployment of its Scan & Go mobile app, which was being tested in approximately 12 stores across Northwest Arkansas, Florida, Texas and Georgia. The chain now is rolling out the app for use in at least 10 additional locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Nashville markets. The stores will offer the solution by the end of the month, said Walmart spokesman Justin Rushing in an interview with Chain Store Age.

  • GlaxoSmithKline names former Walmart CIO to top tech post

    LONDON — GlaxoSmithKline on Tuesday announced that Karenann Terrell has been appointed chief digital & technology officer with a company-wide remit to transform how new technologies are used to improve performance across GlaxoSmithKline. Terrell will join GSK Sept. 4 and will be a member of the corporate executive team.

    Terrell's previous role was chief information officer for Walmart, where she led a multi-year effort to transform Walmart in the use of data, analytics and digital engagement with its customers.

    SAN DIEGO — Acenda announced Wednesday that it has integrated with Walmart.com's global marketplace, connecting Acenda store owners and third-party sellers with Walmart's significant customer base.  Acenda now helps retailers and brands optimize their product listings across major marketplaces including Walmart, Amazon, Google and eBay as well as leading retailers.
