  • PQA issues quality awards to eight Medicare plans

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Pharmacy Quality Alliance on Thursday announced eight Medicare plans received PQA Quality Awards for high achievement or significant improvement in PQA measures of medication safety and appropriate use. Six plans received the PQA Excellence in Quality Award and two plans received PQA's Quality Improvement Award during PQA's 12th Annual Meeting in Baltimore.

  • Walgreens presents five clinical studies tracking pharmacy's impact on adherence

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens will present the findings of five recently completed clinical studies at the 22nd Annual International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Annual International Meeting, May 20-24 in Boston. Clinical abstracts from the studies being presented focus primarily on Walgreens efforts to improve medication adherence and patient outcomes through various pharmacy initiatives.
     

  • CVS Health to host Baseball Camp for Veterans on May 25

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health will kick off Memorial Day celebrations on May 25 with a special event when it hosts a group of military veterans from across New England at Fenway Park. The seventh-annual CVS Health Baseball Camp for Veterans is a full-day event, including on-field batting practice with Red Sox Hitting Coaches Chili Davis and Victor Rodriguez, a VIP tour of Fenway Park and tickets to the night’s game.

    The event is part of CVS Health’s commitment to America’s military heroes and veterans of all abilities. 

  • Albertsons, Wegmans named EPA Safer Choice Partners of the Year

    OXON HILL, Md. — Albertsons and Wegmans Food Markets were named by the Environmental Protection Agency as Safer Choice Partners of the Year for 2017, which honors outstanding achievement in the design, manufacture, promotion, and use of Safer Choice-labeled products over the past year. The awards were presented at National Harbor in Oxon Hill on May 15.

  • Fred’s makes $38K donation to American Heart Association

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred’s Pharmacy’s heart disease and colorectal cancer awareness campaigns culminated in the Memphis-based retailer making a $38,244 donation to the American Heart Association earlier this month, bringing the total donated over the last four years to $130,703.

  • Giant donates $2M to more than 2,000 schools

    LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food of Landover on Tuesday announced it donated $2 million to 2,322 public and private schools in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Delaware. The funds are part of the 2016-2017 A+ School Rewards program, where purchases made by Giant customers help provide funding to area schools.

    For the second year in a row, 20 schools received more than $10,000 each as part of the program. Mater Dei School in Bethesda, Md., received the largest check, $29,301.39, as a result of this year’s program.  

  • Mylan honors Women’s Health Week

    PITTSBURGH — Mylan on Tuesday joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health in recognizing the 18th-annual National Women's Health Week. This year's goal is to empower women to make their health a priority and take steps to help improve their health.

    National Women's Health Week kicked off on Mother's Day, May 14, and is celebrated through May 20.

  • NCPA reaches out to Senate Republicans regarding AHCA

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Community Pharmacists Association on Thursday urged Senate Republicans to keep a number of important prescription drug-related provisions as they consider House passage of H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act.

    “Prescription drug coverage is an essential health benefit,” stated Douglas Hoey, CEO NCPA. “Any meaningful drug coverage should include patient choice of pharmacy and access to face-to-face counseling with a community pharmacist they know and trust.”
