  • CDC: Flu shots for children significantly reduces death from influenza

    ATLANTA — A new study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this month in Pediatrics is the first of its kind to show that flu vaccination significantly reduced a child’s risk of dying from influenza. The study, which looked at data from four flu seasons between 2010 and 2014, found that flu vaccination reduced the risk of flu-associated death by half (51%) among children with underlying high-risk medical conditions and by nearly two-thirds (65%) among healthy children.

  • LTR call from Walgreens pharmacists help improve adherence by 23%

    DEERFIELD, Ill. – A recent Walgreens study of pharmacy patients enrolled in Medicare Prescription Drug Plans found that patients who were late to refill prescriptions and who received reminder calls from local Walgreens pharmacists demonstrated nearly 23% greater adherence within the first 14 days of the expected refill date.

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — NACDS added two prominent speakers to the lineup at the NACDS Annual Meeting, set to take place April 22 to 25 at The Phoenician in Scottsdale. Retired Four-Star Marine Gen. John Allen, who has served in pivotal leadership roles related to the Middle East and Asia, will speak at the Business Program on Sunday, April 23. Richard W. Fisher, who served as president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas from 2005 to 2015, will speak at the Business Program on Tuesday, April 25.

  • NCPA endorses House bill on Part D plan pharmacy choice

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Community Pharmacists Association on Thursday offered its backing to legislation aimed at improving pharmacy access for seniors with Medicare Part D drug plans.

    The Ensuring Seniors Access to Local Pharmacies Act was introduced by Reps. Morgan Griffith, R-Va., and Peter Welch, D-Vt., and would allow pharmacies in medically underserved areas to participate in preferred pharmacy networks under Medicare Part D if they accept the in-network providers’ terms and conditions.
