  • Industry mourns loss of former Costco exec Charles Burnett

    Charles “Charlie” Burnett, a longtime Costco pharmacy executive, passed away early in the morning on June 1, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced Friday. Burnett is being remembered for his work as a pharmacy pioneer who helped build and grow Costco’s pharmacy business. 

    During his lifetime, Burnett became the only person to win both of NACDS’ highest honors — the Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award and the Harold W. Pratt Award.

  • Touro College of Pharmacy graduates 6th class

    NEW YORK — Touro College of Pharmacy last week celebrated the graduation of its sixth class of new pharmacists. The school held commencement exercises for the 97 graduates at Columbia University’s Roone Arledge Auditorium, sending students off on such paths as work in retail or hospital pharmacies, public health organizations, government agencies and drug companies, as well as more schooling.

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Pharmacy Quality Alliance on Tuesday announced three strategic hires and the installation of an executive fellow. Bill Lademann joins PQA as SVP strategic alliances and measure implementation; Irene Nsiah was named associate director research and analytics; Loren Kirk was named associate director member engagement; and Nicolette Mehas is joining PQA as its fifth executive fellow.

  • Inaugural PQA-CVS Health Foundation Scholars complete program

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Pharmacy Quality Alliance and CVS Health Foundation’s inaugural class of 38 students and mentors have successfully completed a scholarship opportunity whereby students pair with a mentor to design and implement a quality-related project. The program concluded with the students presenting the results of their projects during the Poster Presentation session at the PQA Annual Meeting.

  • Pharmacy-provided immunizations critical to patient care

    Through offering immunizations, pharmacies can increase their standing as a healthcare destination within their communities, as well as create a new, patient-building service and revenue stream. Profit margins associated with vaccine administration are, on average, greater than oral medications dispensed, said Eleanor Daufenbach, director of Clinical Marketing for Retail Pharmacy for Cardinal Health.
