  • CVS Caremark earns URAC accreditations across several programs

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. - CVS Health announced Wednesday that pharmacy benefits manager CVS Caremark has earned URAC accreditations in Health Call Center for its Pharmacy Advisor counseling program as well as in Pharmacy Benefit Management and Drug Therapy Management.

  • Op-ed calls for pharmacist involvement in medical marijuana

    The Sun-Sentinel this week published an op-ed from Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy associate professor Paul DeMuro, in which he calls for pharmacists to play a central role in medical marijuana dispensing. 
     
    DeMuro notes that pharmacists are uniquely qualified to help understand how a patient will respond to marijuana and its side effects, as well as its interaction with a patient’s existing medication regimen.
     
  • APhA lauds moving Certified Geriatric Pharmacist credential to BPS portfolio

    WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) responded Tuesday to the recently reached agreement between the the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP) and the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) to move the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist credential under the BPS portfolio of pharmacist certifications.

    FLINT, Mich. — Diplomat Pharmacy on Tuesday announced that, in honor of American Pharmacists Month, it would be hosting a Diplomat Dialogue series that would take a closer look at specialty pharmacy the role of pharmacists. 
     
  • NCPA Digest: More than 22,000 pharmacists revolutionizing health service delivery

    NEW ORLEANS – There are more than 22,160 independent community pharmacies who are a critical prescription drug access point for patients, particularly in underserved areas  - 82% of independent community pharmacies serve population areas of 50,000 or less - the National Community Pharmacists Association reported Tuesday, citing the just-published 2016 NCPA Digest sponsored by Cardinal Health.

  • Iowa pharmacist, UT Austin students take home NCPA awards

    NEW ORLEANS — At the National Community Pharmacist Association’s 2016 Annual Convention, the organization gave out two of its biggest awards, naming Randy McDonough year’s Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year and giving the top honor from the 2016 Good Neighbor Pharmacy NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition to a team from the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. 
     
  • Survey: 76% of patients would seek out pharmacy with certified technicians

    WASHINGTON — The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board on Thursday shared the results of a survey that highlights the importance of certified pharmacy technicians, according to patients. The survey found that 85% of those surveyed believe it is very important for pharmacy technicians to be certified, and that 76% would seek out a new pharmacy if they knew the technicians in their current pharmacy weren’t certified.
