  • APhA names candidates for several roles

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Pharmacists Association announced candidates for its board of trustees, president-elect and honorary president roles. Elections for these positions will take place March 24-May 22, and APha members will have the opportunity to meet the candidates during its Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco from March 24-27.

  • APhA announces 2017 Awards and Honors Program recipients

    WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association on Monday announced the selection of the recipients of its 2017 Awards and Honors Program. The honorees will be officially recognized at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco, which is slated for March 24-27, 2017.

  • New West Physicians to offer Health Dialog decision aids

    BOSTON — Rite Aid subsidiary Health Dialog’s decision aids will be offered by New West Physicians of Colorado. Beginning immediately, New West patients facing spinal stenosis, knee and hip osteoarthritis and other conditions can access Health Dialog’s shared decision making tools to understand the benefits and risks of different treatment options.

    According to Health Dialog, its SDM programs tend to choose less invasive care, have better outcomes when they choose surgery and report being happier with both their care and their provider.

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration recently shared the first draft guidance addressing the interchangeability of biosimilar drugs and their reference products. 
     
  • Walgreens transfers operations of 4 retail clinics to Florida's Sacred Heart Health System

    DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens and Sacred Heart Health System on Monday signed an agreement to have Sacred Heart operate and provide all clinical services at four retail health clinics to be located within Walgreens stores in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.   
     

  • FDA approved 22 new drugs in lower-than-average 2016

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research’s number of new drug approvals came in low in 2016, according to the agency’s year-end review of the new therapies that passed regulatory muster. The number of drugs the FDA approved last year, 22, is less than half of the 45 approved in 2015 and lower than the average of the last 10 years of approvals, which is 29. 
     
  • Pharmacists held in high regard

    NEW YORK — Pharmacists rank second when it comes to honesty and ethical values, behind only nurses, according to an annual Gallup poll.

    Of those surveyed, two-thirds rated pharmacists with a very high or high grade, while only 8% gave pharmacists a low or very low score.
