    Cider may be the most exciting new segment in the beer category. A recent report from Mintel indicated that in the United Kingdom, the market penetration of cider is now equal to lager.

  • Meijer double-matches donations to food bank fundraising campaign

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A campaign run by Midwestern mass-merchandise chain Meijer to raise money for food banks has netted more than half a million dollars, the company said.

    Meijer said customers donated $184,230 during Simply Give Double Match Days to help food pantries around the Midwest stock shelves, and Meijer double-matched the donations for a total of $552,690.

  • 'Man of Steel' flies into stores with Twizzlers candy

    HERSHEY, Pa. — Twizzlers Candy, a Hershey Company brand, is teaming up with Warner Bros. for the expected summer blockbuster "Man of Steel" to release specially marked packages of Twizzlers and launch a fan contest on Facebook for the Ultimate Man of Steel Getaway.

    Warner Bros. Pictures is launching a national campaign promoting "Man of Steel" and while supplies last, specially marked Twizzlers 16 oz. packages will feature the movie and details about the contest.

  • Bayer Healthcare and Sheryl Crow team on hunger effort

    MORRISTOWN, N.J. — Bayer Healthcare on Friday partnered with Sheryl Crow in support of Feeding America for that group's "Nutrition Mission."

    Through July 28, for every bottle of One-A-Day Women's purchased, Bayer will donate two meals, up to 2 million (valued at $500,000), to Feeding America.

    ATLANTA — Novelis today announced the commercial availability of a high recycled-content aluminum designed specifically for the beverage can market.

    With a minimum of 90% recycled aluminum, the Novelis Evercan aluminum beverage can body sheet will allow beverage companies to deliver soft drinks, beer and other popular beverages in a low-carbon footprint consumer package.

  • Rite Aid signs on as platinum sponsor of EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has signed on as a platinum sponsor of the Entertainment Industry Foundation Revlon Run/Walk for Women, the retail pharmacy chain said Wednesday.

    The company will sponsor the New York and Los Angeles events this month, fielding teams of runners and walkers, manning booths and bringing fitness expert Denise Austin to warm up participants, as well as partnering with Revlon to donate a combined $100,000 to the EIF in support of efforts against women's cancer.
