  • Flavored waters run deep

    Sales of plain PET bottled water may be flat, but there’s significant action in flavored and enhanced waters. Glaceau’s Vitaminwater Zero saw triple-digit sales increases in all three channels (excluding Walmart) for the 52 weeks ended Aug. 7, according to the SymphonyIRI Group. Sales of the company’s Smartwater jumped 25% during the same period.

    Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s also have introduced private-label electrolyte-enhanced still waters.

Friday’s has launched new Entrées for One frozen meals, which include nine varieties: sizzling chicken fajitas, sizzling steak fajitas, grilled chicken mac and cheese, prime rib stroganoff, chicken and broccoli alfredo, loaded chicken and cheese, Cajun-style chicken alfredo, sesame orange chicken, and creamy chicken pasta carbonara. The frozen entrées carry a suggested retail price of $3.99.

    SUPPLIER NEWS — Energizer’s power-on-the-go products made their debut at the IFA Consumer Electronics Global Trade Show in Berlin last month.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Spartan Stores has announced that its Spartan brand packaging now will include front of packaging nutrition icons to help busy consumers make informed decisions when they shop. The new labels support the voluntary Facts Up Front nutrition labeling system designed by the Food Marketing Institute and the Grocery Manufacturing Association.

  • Stop & Shop co-sponsors food benefit outreach program

    NEW YORK — Supermarket chain Stop & Shop will work with Foodshare to sponsor events at its stores in Hartford, Conn., to help qualifying residents access the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefit.

    About 70% of Connecticut residents who qualify for SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program, actually receive the benefit, Stop & Shop said. This is because of such issues as language barriers, lack of transportation or lack of knowledge of the program.

  • Catalina appoints former Folgers CEO, P&G president as new CEO

    ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Catalina Marketing announced on Monday that its board of directors has tapped Jamie Egasti, former CEO of the Folgers Coffee Co. and president of Procter & Gamble’s global snacks and coffee, to serve as CEO and member of the board.

    Egasti succeeds Catalina co-founder George Off, who has served as interim CEO and a member of the board since May 2011.


  • Clorox CFO retires

    OAKLAND, Calif. — Clorox announced that EVP and CFO Dan Heinrich, who has served as financial chief of the company since 2003, will retire Nov. 16.

    In addition to his current role leading all aspects of the finance, business development and investor relations functions and corporate administrative services, during his career with Clorox, Heinrich also oversaw the corporate communications, risk management and IT functions. Heinrich, who joined the company in 2001 and controller, also is a member of the company's executive committee.

  • Hormel Health Labs brings new healthcare food products to select Walgreens stores

    SAVANNAH, Ga. — Diamond Crystal Brands said its Hormel Health Labs brand is introducing its line of healthcare food products to select Walgreens stores.

    Hormel Health Labs products cater to customers that deal with such health conditions as dysphagia (for swallowing difficulty), malnutrition, digestion, muscle maintenance and poor appetite. In line with this, Hormel Health Labs also is introducing such items as Hormel Thick and Easy puree meals for dysphagia, which are shelf-stable meals that microwave in 60 seconds.
