    IRVING, Texas — Hostess has added a new member to its line of squiggle-topped cupcakes.

    New pink strawberry cupcakes will feature delicious strawberry-flavored icing, Hostess' signature creme filling and the icing squiggle on top.

    Each 15-oz. package includes eight individually wrapped cupcakes and will be available at retailers nationwide.

    WBCP said Mattel will bring "Green Lantern" to life by producing the lineup, which includes:

    • The Green Lantern Ring Blast jet figure and vehicle;

    • The Green Lantern Battle Shifters figures;

    NEW YORK — A line of kid-friendly pedometers is expanding to include two new water-resistant products.

    Designed to motivate physical activity among children, GeoPalz are pedometers that can measure speed and distance of activity and store up to 21 days of data. Each pedometer flips open to reveal how much activity is exerted via the digital tracking display. The mode can be changed to toggle between displaying the steps or the time of day. Each GeoPalz product features kid-friendly designs.

  • Study: Energy drink use by young people could lead to health problems

    MIAMI — New research published in the Feb. 14 online edition of Pediatrics found that prolonged use of energy drinks by young people can lead to potentially adverse health outcomes.

    Researchers at the University of Miami's Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine noted that in the United States, energy drinks were consumed by 30% to 50% of adolescents and young adults, according to self-report surveys. Additionally, adolescent caffeine intake averaged 60 mg/day to 70 mg/day and ranged up to 800 mg/day, the researchers said.
