  • Menasha Packaging wins 13 design awards at Shopper Marketing Expo

    NEENAH, Wis. — A company that makes packaging for manufacturers ranging from food companies to drug makers has received more than a dozen awards at a marketing exposition in Chicago.

    Menasha Packaging announced that it won 13 Design of the Time Awards at the 2013 Shopper Marketing Expo, including three gold, two silver and eight bronze awards in the drug store, mass-merchandise, specialty and supermarket channels. The DOT Awards recognize creative in-store activation tactics and campaigns.

  • Probiotic sales on the rise

    Many of the larger probiotic brands are experiencing significant growth. i-Health’s Culturelle generated $61.6 million in sales on a growth rate of 44.5% for the 52 weeks ended Aug. 11, according to IRI data across U.S. multi-outlets. And sales of Bayer’s Phillips Colon Health were up 18.5% to $58.7 million.

  • Recalls don’t slow down iconic brands

    Such iconic pain relief brands as McNeil Consumer’s Tylenol and Motrin, and Novartis’ Excedrin, have made their way back to the shelf this fall following a recall-driven hiatus. And the sales have already started to accumulate.

  • Benzocaine-free oral analgesics on the rise

    Sales of Hyland’s oral analgesic products are up 23.5% to $15.4 million for the 52 weeks ended Aug. 11 across U.S. multi-outlets, according to IRI. Overall sales trends across the category are down by 1.7%, which suggests that what Hyland’s is doing is right — its products are safe, they work and they aren’t formulated with benzocaine.

  • P&G partners with world champion skier to encourage Americans to power through cold-cough season

    CINCINATTI — Procter & Gamble's DayQuil and NyQuil are partnering with U.S. Alpine skier Ted Ligety this cold-cough-flu season, as he prepares for a chance to compete in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Russia.

    This winter Ligety will be spreading the message of using Vicks DayQuil & NyQuil to relieve cold symptoms and "power through anything winter throws at them." The new partnership with Ligety is part of a long-standing Vicks and P&G sponsorship of the Olympics.

  • Pharmavite VitaMelts climb to No. 12 spot

    NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Pharmavite launched its latest VMS innovation, Nature Made VitaMelts, earlier this summer, and already the brand ranks No. 12 among one- and two-letter vitamins, according to 52-week sales data as tracked by IRI.

    The most significant point of differentiation: a new-format delivery that induces trial and subsequently the repurchase. “The repurchase is so high because the marketing campaign has been very successful and continues to build awareness among mass consumers,” noted Pharmavite spokesman Doug Jones.

  • Immunity boosters thrive

    Traditional cough-cold remedies weren’t the only benefactors of a robust illness season last year. Sales of immunity boosters were also up.
