  • PharMerica joins Surescripts network

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Electronic prescribing network Surescripts has certified PharMerica, a chain of specialty infusion and institutional pharmacies that serve long-term care centers, for receiving orders for controlled and non-controlled substances over the Surescripts network.

  • PopShoppe gourmet popcorn debuts in regional Sam's Club locations

    LAS VEGAS — Opportunity Village announced the arrival of PopShoppe Gourmet Chocolate Covered Popcorn in regional Sam's Club locations from Nov. 11 through Dec. 30.

    The item was previously available at select locations in the Las Vegas area, but positive reception for the product resulted in a wider distribution. The popcorn will available in 30 clubs, including seven locations within the Las Vegas area as well as locations in Idaho, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.

  • Amneal to launch generic contraceptive

    BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Generic drug maker Amneal Pharmaceuticals will launch its version of a contraceptive product at the beginning of January, the drug maker said.

    Amneal said it would launch its version of 24 Fe (norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol tablets; ferrous fumarate tablets) in the 1 mg/20 mcg and 75 mg strength. As the first company to successfully file for Food and Drug Administration approval of the drug, Amneal's product will have 180 days in which to compete exclusively against the branded version.

  • FDA approves generic versions of Aciphex

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved six generic versions of a drug used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, the agency said Friday.

    The FDA announced the approval of the first generic versions of Eisai's Aciphex (rabeprazole sodium) delayed-release tablets for patients aged 12 and older. The generic products are made by Dr. Reddy's Labs, Kremers Urban Pharmaceuticals, Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA and Torrent Pharmaceuticals.

  • At-home test provides consumers down-to-the-week results

    CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble in August launched its Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator — the first and only pregnancy test that also provides an estimate of time since ovulation for women testing pregnant. The introduction will play brand dividends — before the new product’s sales could be tracked, Clearblue pregnancy test kits were already up 23.6% to $39.5 million, across U.S. multi-outlets for the 52 weeks ended Sept. 8, according to IRI.

    WHIPPANY, N.J. — Bayer’s Contour Next EZ has captured $5.9 million in sales in a little more than one year on shelf, according to IRI. The system provides innovative technology for enhanced accuracy by combining a next-generation test strip with an algorithm, multipulse technology and a proprietary mediator.
