    LA JOLLA, Calif. — Kashi has launched a new soft-baked snack that combines the company's signature blend of seven whole grains with unexpected real food ingredients.

    Available in chocolate and almond varieties, Kashi soft-baked squares combine cocoa, chocolate chunks and agave with sweet potatoes and black beans. The snacks are free of synthetic colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, sweeteners, as well as high-fructose corn syrup.

  • Ferndale Healthcare launches OTC hemorrhoid therapy

    FERNDALE, Mich. — Ferndale Healthcare on Monday announced the launch of RectiCare Anorectal cream, an over-the-counter therapy to help relieve the pain and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids. RectiCare is a topical, local anesthetic that contains 5% lidocaine.

    Each tube of RectiCare comes with a supply of "finger cots," little cotton covers that fit over the finger. They promote hygienic application, since the finger doesn't come into contact with the product or the area to which it's being applied, the company stated. 

  • Clif Kid boosts Zbar Crispy line with new flavor

    EMERYVILLE, Calif. — Clif Bar has expanded its Zbar Crispy line with a new cookies 'n cream flavor.

    The USDA-certified organic bar, made with 8 g of organic whole grains and vitamins and minerals — calcium, iron, zinc and vitamin D, does not contain artificial flavors or colors, sweeteners or preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, trans fat or ingredients sourced from GMOs. It joins other kid-friendly Zbar Crispy flavors, including chocolate, chocolate chip and peanut butter.

  • FDA approves new strength of Lupin antibiotic

    BALTIMORE — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new dosage of an antibiotic drug made by Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Lupin said Tuesday.

    The Mumbai, India-based drug maker announced the approval of Suprax (cefixime) capsules in the 400-mg strength and plans to start shipping the drug "in the near future." The new approval adds to existing suspensions containing 100 mg per 5 mL and 200 mg per 5 mL.

    The drug is used to treat infections such as pneumonia, gonorrhea and others.

  • Phusion Projects introduces Island Squeeze in time for summer

    CHICAGO — The company behind Four Loko is getting into the frozen cocktail business.

    Phusion Projects announced the launch of Island Squeeze, a frozen pouch cocktail. Each malt-based cocktail — which tout 6% alcohol by volume — is individually packaged and can be frozen and squeezed into a glass or served over ice. The line is available in pink lemonade light, pina colada, margarita and strawberry daquiri flavors.

    SUN VALLEY, Idaho — A line of gluten-free and dairy-free nutrition bars is being rolled out nationwide.

    Created with health-conscious consumers in mind, Good 'N Natural fruit, nut and seed bars feature gluten-free rolled oats, organic maple syrup, 5 g of fiber and 10 g of protein, and are available in four varieties, including cranberry almond, peanut butter, chocolate and lemon. The bars are being rolled out to stores nationwide.
