  • Albertsons, HCSC team to tackle adherence

    Customer-owned health insurer Health Care Service Corporation has launched a multi-phase program called Pharmacists Adding Value and Expertise in collaboration with Jewel-Osco, Safeway and Albertsons Pharmacies in Illinois, Montana and New Mexico, as well as with the Texas Pharmacist Association. The move represents the company's effort to help improve medication adherence rates with its Medicare and dual-eligible (Medicare/Medicaid) members.

     MADISON, Wis. — The Food and Drug Administration has cleared Propeller Health’s Propeller platform — a leading digital solution for respiratory medicine — to be used with GSK’s Ellipta, its dry powder inhaler. 
     
  • Arete looks to PrescribeWellness for patient communication, med sync

    IRVINE, Calif. — Prescribewellness and pharmacy services administrative organization Arete Pharmacy Network on Thursday announced a new partnership that will bring PrescribeWellness’s solutions to Arete Pharmacy Network’s independent community pharmacy partners. 
     
    Through the partnership, PrescribeWellness will be Arete Pharmacy Network’s preferred patient communications and medication synchronization provider.

    RALEIGH, N.C. — Ateb on Wednesday announced that it had convened its Community Pharmacy Advisory Board in an effort to foster through leadership about the issues facing community pharmacy and suggesting solutions that would drive profitability. 
     
    Among the big changes the board envisioned for the future of pharmacy was pharmacogenomics testing, which pharmacies can now offer through Ateb’s solution to help identify how patients metabolize their medications and maximize the benefit of patients's medications.

  • Study: CLIA waivers can empower pharmacists to fill PCP care gap

    FAIRFAX, Va. - Pharmacists and lab technicians are capable of absorbing the additional health management responsiblities currently being created by the reduction in primary care physicians, according to a new study published by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the physician shortage could reach as high as a shortage of 20,000 primary care physicians by 2020.
