  • Giant/Martin’s launches Bag Hunger campaign with $155K donation to area food banks

    CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets on Friday began their hunger-relief campaign Bag Hunger with a one-day donation in partnership with 31 food banks in Pennsylvania and Maryland. The company donated a total of $155,000 in gift cards to help organizations provide meals to those in need.
     
  • Food Lion set to remodel 93 Greensboro, N.C.-area stores

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion announced Monday that as part of its “Easy, Fresh and Affordable… You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day!” strategy, it will be remodeling 93 stores in the greater Greensboro, N.C. market this year. The Delhaize America banner is making a $178 million investment in its stores to make shopping easier and more affordable, the company said. 
     
  • Publix Pharmacy adds Montelukast to its Free Medication Program

    LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Pharmacy added Montelukast — a prescription medication for asthma and allergies — to its Free Medication Program.

    The Publix program provides up to a 90-day supply of certain common prescription medications at no charge to pharmacy customers for as a long as prescribed.

  • Kroger’s longest-tenured associate to retire

    WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Kroger’s longest-tenured employee is ready to pass on that mantel. Larry Arnold, 79, a Kroger associate for 63 years, will retire at the end of February.

    Arnold, currently a dairy clerk at Pickerington Marketplace in Ohio, started with the company in 1953, when a week before his 16th birthday he accepted a job as a clerk at the former Market Street store in Zanesville, Ohio.

  • Albertsons trains pharmacists to dispense prescription-free Naloxone spray in 13 states

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons on Thursday announced that it had trained 3,000 of its pharmacists under its various banners to administer Adapt Pharma’s Narcan Nasal Spray and counsel patient on how to use the opioid overdose reversal drug. 
     
  • Shoppers Drug Mart’s earnings rise across the board

    TORONTO — Shoppers Drug Mart earned net income of $201 million Canadian for its fourth quarter ended Dec. 31. This compares to net income of $128C million during the same period in 2015. Adjusted net earnings were $393C million, compared to $363C million in the prior year.

    Looking at other quarterly earnings, all presented in Canadian dollars throughout the remainder of the story, the retailer posted revenues of $10.845 billion in its most recent quarter, versus $10.6 billon in the year-ago period.
