  • SLIDESHOW: Weis Markets opens latest ‘community market’ prototype

    ENOLA, Pa. — Weis Markets on Thursday unveiled it latest flagship location here, featuring the latest in merchandising and marketing for the Pennsylvania-based grocer. The store features the company's second drive-through pharmacy, a dedicated dietitian and a pharmacy-adjacent consultation room for patients.

    The 65,000-square-foot supermarket represents the company’s new community market design, with a robust food court, service-focused fresh departments and extensive variety throughout the store.

  • Health products ride baby boom wave

    Purveyors of health products have been riding the baby boomer wave for some time now, and it doesn’t appear to be cresting any time soon. According to the Population Reference Bureau, the number of Americans ages 65 years old and older is projected to more than double from 46 million today to more than 98 million by 2060, and the 65-and-older age group’s share of the total population will rise to nearly 24% from 15%.

  • Brands reflect better nutrition options

    The top three brands in this year’s list of breakthrough brands, defined as those brands either introduced within the 52 weeks ended Dec. 25, 2016, or those brands that experienced blockbuster incremental growth in that time frame, feature the leading meal-replacement solutions on the market today in Premier Protein, Clif Bar and SlimFast, according to IRI. A fourth brand — Quest Nutrition’s Quest Bars — also ranks high on the list. It’s reflective of the consumer need for products that embody an aspirational health- and-wellness direction that many U.S.

  • Products You Love, SpaLife win DSN/ECRM Buyers’ Choice Awards

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Products You Love, a Laguna Beach, Calif.-based supplier of beauty accessories, was the winner of the 2017 ECRM/Drug Store News Buyers Choice Award for its Polish Pal patented nail polish holder. The award was presented during ECRM’s Cosmetics, Fragrance & Bath EPPS held last month in Jacksonville, Fla. SpaLife, a Rahway, N.Y.-based supplier of natural at-home beauty treatments, was a finalist for its line of handmade fruit soaps.
