  • Benzer launches pharmacy residency program

    TAMPA, Fla. — Benzer Pharmacy will be introducing a pharmacy residency program, the company announced Wednesday. The post-grad training program is aimed at providing pharmacy students with training that focuses on clinical care. 
     
    “Benzer Pharmacy is excited to initiate the pharmacy residency program which will provide practitioners with a competitive edge over their peers,” the company’s chief clinical officer, Lindsay Wall,  said. 
     
  • Upsher-Smith, NASPA partner to honor pharmacists

    MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — Upsher-Smith Laboratories and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations have recognized 43 pharmacists across the country with a 2016 NASPA Excellence in Innovation Award. Presented annually, the award recognized pharmacists during 2016 for their outstanding contributions to the pharmacy profession. 
     
  • Snead named APhA Jacob W. Miller Award winner

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rebecca Snead, RPh, was named the recipient of the 2017 American Pharmacists Association Foundation’s Jacob W. Miller Award. The award recognizes individuals who have advanced the APhA Foundation’s mission through involvement in its programs, support of its initiatives, or leadership in carrying out its mission. It was established in 2000 to honor Jacob Miller, who served as president of the APhA Foundation from 1991 to 2000.

  • PharmaSmart praises CDC position on blood pressure kiosks

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently called on pharmacists to use only clinically validated and interoperable blood pressure, or BP, kiosks. PharmaSmart, a health kiosk manufacturer and pharmacy Health IT innovator, noted that its products uniquely meet both criteria.
     
  • Humanizing chronic care

    MODERATOR’S NOTE: It should come as no surprise that 7-in-10 deaths in the United States today are caused by, or related to, a chronic condition. At least 45% of our current population suffers from a chronic condition. By 2025, 164 million Americans — nearly half of the population — will have at least one chronic condition.

  • High-tech tools, systems elevate pharmacy

    Increasingly, pharmacies are turning to automation as a way to increase efficiency and free up their pharmacists — employing everything from lower-cost, in-store automation to sophisticated robotics systems that help make central fill operations more efficient and reduce dispensing costs.

  • Albertsons, Cardinal execs among those named to ACPE leadership posts

    CHICAGO — Anthony Provenzano, VP of pharmacy compliance and government affairs for Albertsons, and Michael A. Moné, VP associate general counsel-regulatory for Cardinal Health, are among a group of executives elected to Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education leadership posts. Elections were held during the ACPE board of directors meeting, which took place last month.
     
  • APhA names candidates for several roles

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Pharmacists Association announced candidates for its board of trustees, president-elect and honorary president roles. Elections for these positions will take place March 24-May 22, and APha members will have the opportunity to meet the candidates during its Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco from March 24-27.
