    LONDON and NEW YORK — Recent insights and a just-announced partnership between Estée Lauder and virtual makeover app YouCam Makeup are highlighting a way for retailers to create an omnichannel experience for shoppers that keep their phones handy while shopping, but still flock to brick-and-mortar stores.

  • J.C. Penney revamps beauty service offering

    PLANO, Texas — J.C. Penney extending its commitment to beauty and related services.

    The retailer said Monday that 50 additional salon locations will be rebranded to The Salon by Instyle this year, as the company continues to revamp its 750 salons nationwide.

    Key design elements of the new concept include updated graphics, photography that highlights hair trends, accent lighting, modern fixtures and sleek furniture. Each salon offers an array of services from haircuts to hair treatments to extensions.

  • Beauty format's success behind Walgreens expansion into 1,000 additional stores

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens will be bolstering its beauty proposition with the addition of "Beauty Differentiation" formats across more than 1,000 additional stores this year, the company reported earlier this week. The move is being precipitated with the hiring of beauty consultants who add a personal customer service touch to the offering.

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens Boots Alliance will be introducing its latest own brand, called Botanics, within the next six months, the company announced Wednesday at its quarterly earnings call. 

  • ShopRite expands ‘free fruit’ program

    KEASBEY, N.J. — ShopRite on Wednesday announced it has expanded the “free fruit” program it launched earlier this year in select stores, to now include five additional stores located in Pennsylvania and New Jersey that are owned and operated by ShopRite of Hunterdon County (New Jersey).

    Under the program, kids 12 and younger receive a free banana, clementine or other seasonal fruit while shopping with a parent or guardian. The fruits are located in the produce aisle, and the program is overseen by the supermarket’s team of in-store dietitians.
