  • Harris Teeter to open Sterling, Va. location with in-store health services

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — Harris Teeter on Thursday announced a planned grand opening for its newest location. The new store, located in Sterling Va., will be opened with an event on June 15 at 8 a.m. that will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony and in-store sampling. 
     
    The 52,000-sq. ft. store will be open 24/7 and feature a drive-thru pharmacy, as well as free blood pressure testing, private professional consultations and drug interaction and allergy screenings. 
     
  • Meijer opens superstore in Sturgis, Mich.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Meijer on Thursday opened a new 192,000-square-foot supercenter in Sturgis, Mich.

    "Opening this store has been a long time coming, and we're thrilled the day is finally here," CEO Hank Meijer said. "Sturgis has never had a one-stop shopping destination like Meijer, so we're proud to be the retailer to fill that void."

  • NeuroMetrix’s Quell rolls out to 1,000 drug stores

    WALTHAM — NeuroMetrix, maker of Quell, a wearable device aimed at relieving chronic pain, announced that in June the device would be available in about 1,000 chain drug stores across the country. The company’s website features a store locator to help find which locations sell Quell. 
     
  • King Soopers president announces retirement

    CINCINNATI - Kroger on Wednesday announced that Russ Dispense, president of the company's King Soopers division, plans to retire on July 1, after 51 years with the company.

    His successor will be announced at a later date, Kroger stated.

  • Kroger brings curbside pickup to Houston market

    HOUSTON -- The Kroger Houston division on Thursday invited area customers to try ClickList, an online grocery ordering service, at select stores in the area. As an introductory offer, Kroger will waive the $4.95 service charge for a customer's first three orders.

    ClickList, which is exclusive to Kroger, allows customers to shop online and pick up their order curbside at one of 22 the participating store locations expected to operate the new service by the beginning of fall 2016.

  • Probiotics, protein, vitamin D among top drivers

    The specialty channel, including natural grocery and vitamin retailers, has long been a fair prognosticator of what might be coming down the line in the natural health space for mass, food and drug retailers. Those are the channels where many of the early adopters are presumed to shop, though conventional retailers may in fact be capturing their fair share of those consumers today.

  • Convenience, taste keep gummies on top

    As a format, adult gummy vitamins continue to trend well. The adult gummy segment grew by 23% in the first quarter of 2016, significantly outpacing the kids gummy section that dropped by 8% in sales over the same period, according to Matthew Farrell, president and CEO for Church & Dwight.

  • Rite Aid improves distribution in Southeast with new DC

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid announced Wednesday the grand opening of its new distribution center in Spartanburg, S.C., located at 789 Flatwood Industrial Drive.
