    WASHINGTON — Earlier this week several Congress leaders introduced HR 3841, the SNAP Vitamin and Mineral Improvement Act of 2017, which allows for the inclusion of a multivitamin under Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

    Other specialty areas of the toothpaste category include travel sizes, such as that recently revealed by Dr. Bronner’s. The new 1-oz. tube is TSA-compliant for carry-on luggage. Dr. Bronner’s peppermint All-One toothpaste is made with 70% organic ingredients, including organic coconut flour, coconut oil as a mild abrasive and aloe juice to soothe gums.

    It is a low-foaming formula in a toothpaste tube that’s 100% recyclable, the company said. Priced at $2.49 per tube, the travel size started hitting shelves priced in September.

  • Target cuts prices ahead of holiday selling season

    MINNEAPOLIS — rThe price wars among the nation's leading retailers has taken a new turn just ahead of the critical holiday selling season.

    On Friday, Target revealed in a blog post on its website that it had lowered prices on "thousands" of items, from cereal and paper towels to baby formula, razors, bath tissue and more. The discounter said the move would help end shoppers' uncertainty over the timing of discounts on certain products, and make for "more consistent savings."

  • FTC imposes $6.5 million penalty on supplement outliers for making false claims

    WASHINGTON — The final three of nine defendants sued for deceptively marketing dietary supplements will settle charges that the Federal Trade Commission and the State of Maine had filed in February 2017. The agencies charged the defendants with using deceptively formatted radio infomercials and print ads with fictitious endorsers to pitch products they claimed would improve memory and reduce back and joint pain.

    PHILADELPHIA — Parents may be using mobile to look for deals this back-to-school season, but most purchases are happening in-store.

    Sixty-eight percent (68%) of shoppers will make their back-to-school purchases in-store vs. 32% who would prefer to shop only online, according to the “2017 Back-to-School Sales Report,” from ChargeItSpot.
