    NEW YORK — CandyRific is making holiday celebrations better than ever with new M&M's-branded novelty items.

    This Halloween, expect to see frightfully fun M&M's products, which include a Halloween candy fan (suggested retail price of $3.99), Halloween embossed tin (SRP $1.99), Halloween sticker/stamper (SRP $2.99), Halloween screamers with sound (SRP $3.99) and a light-up Halloween candy pop fan (SRP $3.99).

    This winter, Candy-Rific also will introduce M&M's Christmas-themed items, including:

    FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Jelly Belly’s new Peas & Carrots mellowcreme mix is a whimsical, retro product that has been revived right from the company’s antique candy molds. The “baby carrots” in the mix are orange sherbet mellowcreme, while the “peas” are green apple flavor — a sweet version of a classic veggie combination.


  • Ulta implements scholarship program for young women

    CHICAGO — Beauty retailer Ulta said it will award more than $100,000 in scholarship grants across 13 U.S. cities to female high school seniors.

    The 2011 Enrich, Empower and Enlighten Scholarship program will offer each winner an $8,000 scholarship to the educational institution of her choice. Applications will be evaluated on community involvement, leadership qualities, academic achievement and commitment to continuing their education, Ulta said.

    Participating cities in the program include:

  • Ahoy! OPI develops 'Pirates of the Caribbean' nail polish collection

    NEW YORK — New swashbuckling colors are on the horizon as OPI gears up to launch a new, limited-edition nail lacquer collection based on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film franchise.

    In line with the premiere of the franchise's latest film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," OPI has developed six new nail lacquers, including a new Shatter polish, which leaves behind a crackled, two-texture silver finish when painted over any dry OPI hue.

  • Report: Bank promotes fitness with account incentives

    NEW YORK — Lose weight. Get paid.

    That’s among the offerings at South Korea’s Hana Bank, according to published reports. Reuters reported Wednesday that the bank offers the “S-Line” program, whereby customers who burn calories, lose at least 5% of their body weight per year or hold a gym membership get a higher interest rate on their accounts.

    The program, whose name refers to the Korean term for an hourglass physique, has existed since 2008.

  • 'May the force be with you:' M&M's featured in 'Star Wars' novelty items

    NEW YORK — CandyRific has joined Lucasfilm's "Star Wars" with iconic M&M's candies through a new license pairing.

    The new M&M's "Star Wars" lineup includes such items as 9-in. and 12-in. dispensers (retailing for $4.99 and $12.99, respectively), candy fans ($3.99), coin banks ($2.99) and lightsabers ($3.99). Many of the products feature M&M's dressed as classic "Star Wars" characters, including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Darth Vader and Han Solo.

    PLANO, Texas — Orange soda brand Sunkist has teamed up with sports broadcasting legend Dick Vitale to offer consumers a chance to win 1-of-8 $10,000 weekly cash prizes.

    Through March 31, Sunkist fans can enter the Sunkist Catchphrase that Pays contest, in which consumers can submit their best ideas for Vitale's new catchphrase online at SunkistSoda.com.

    MEMPHIS — The words “chocolate brownie” and “dietary supplement” may seem contradictory, but one company has managed to bring the two together.

    Memphis, Tenn.-based HBB is touting Lazy Cakes, a chocolate brownie packed with a blend of such herbs as passion flower, rose hip extract, valerian root extract and melatonin. Lazy Cakes are designed as a relaxation and sleep aid for people with busy, stressful lifestyles.
